NY BRED horses to keep an eye out for this summer at the Saratoga summer meet.
First Crop NY Horses to Watch
For those who like to use pedigree analysis in their handicapping as I do, looking for NY Bred horses who will have many opportunities to run at Saratoga can find a good price for these horses who have very little historical data. The 2017 rankings are as follows;
Trinniberg- out of Truflesberg progeny has shown to be very good sprinters, however he never won past 7 furlongs. Truflesberg never won over a mile; however both have been graded stakes winners. Trinni’s top foal so far is Velvet Trinni who will be running at Belmont on 7/13 in a 62 K MSW with Charles Lopez aboard. Look for some debuts from these 2YO thought-out the Saratoga meet; we may be able to get a great price. IF this meet is, anything like last year’s their speed should hold up
Forty Tales- Out of Tale of the Cat is another horse that has shown immense speed during his career was first or second in 7 of 11 career starts including multiple graded stakes victories. Like Trinniberg has not shown the ability to win from distance. For those looking for potential grass horses could use this as a nice angle as Tale of the Cat also sired former turf champion Gio Ponti.
Second Crop NY Horses to Watch
Mission Impazible- Has a lot of upcoming runners at Belmont, was ranked the #13th overall first crop sire this past year with leading horse Silver Mission earning almost 200k. Unlike the 1st crop sires I have on the list Mission has shown the ability to go distances with multiple wins over a mile. The Unbridled’s progeny line has shown to be horses with the ability to run as 2YO as the line has many Juvenile winners (Midshipman, Emburs Song, Octave.) Don’t forget on the same blood line as Arrogate who is challenging for horse of the year.
Boys at Tosconova- Has sent out 9 runners with 3 winners so far and the list should grow as the NY season goes on. Bertranda, Groton St Scout and Sisella are his leading runners so far. Boys has G1 win at Saratoga in the Three Chimneys Hopeful.
Midas Touch (GB) - Is the only Sire NY Bred out of Galileo so the sire line of turf horses is there and should be able to get good prices on them until this angle is well known. I would definitely be taking these horses in NY Breed company as I feel that no horse will have the matching pedigree. Midas won both as a 2yo and a 3yo which I hope the offspring will follow suit.
